Afghanistan is a mountainous, landlocked country in Central and South Asia, home to the towering Hindu Kush range, historic Silk Road routes, and a diverse mosaic of cultures and landscapes.

📍 Afghanistan is a landlocked country located in the heart of South-Central Asia, often considered a crossroads between Central Asia, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent. It is bordered by Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan to the north; China to the northeast via a narrow strip known as the Wakhan Corridor; Pakistan to the east and south; and Iran to the west. Its rugged terrain is dominated by the Hindu Kush mountain range, which runs diagonally through the country and has historically shaped travel, trade, and settlement patterns. Afghanistan’s strategic position has made it a key link for cultural exchange and commerce for centuries, but also a focal point of regional conflict and geopolitical interest.

What is an ISO Country Code?

ISO country codes come from the international standard ISO 3166 created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). These codes are used globally in databases, aviation systems, banking, shipping, and international data systems to uniquely identify countries and territories.

ISO 3166-1 codes are the two-letter country codes such as US, FR, or JP. These are called Level-1 ISO codes.

Only ISO 3166-1 codes support flag emojis. Flag emojis are created by combining two Unicode regional indicator letters that match the country's ISO two-letter code.

ISO 3166-2 codes represent states, provinces, or regions. Example: US-AZ = Arizona CA-ON = Ontario Subdivision codes do not have flag emojis.
